What he said
International Women's Day was this past week, but since I think we lady-folks are great every day, here's a belated link to a letter written by Carl Sagan that made me want to put on my boots and go exploring.

6-word love stories
Angela at Oh She Glows (the woman responsible for my very healthy breakfast routine now) has been posting sweet stuff all this month to celebrate Valentine's Day. Today she wrote about six-word love stories, and I have basically had to peel myself away from all the comments on the NY Times article so I can, like, get other things done. It's really good stuff.
A few of my favorites:
When we stopped thinking, we loved.
Dog approves; maybe this guy’s good?
Rain on the roof. Strong arms.
red hair, brown eyes, weak knees.
She fed me.
Me wed she.
Me wed she.
There are hundreds of them, spanning from pure romance to tragedy, and since they're so short, it's easy to tell yourself you're just going to skim them. Be advised that skimming is difficult and you will likely not come up for air for 45 minutes.
I decided I should try my hand, too:
Rome to Chicago, home's with him.
or:
Shelf too tall? He always helps.
also:
Proposed with violin, still making music.
Yikes - I think I just gave myself a cavity.
Anyway, happy belated Valentine's Day, everyone! We get to spend the weekend hosting the newlywed lovebirds from the super-fun October wedding we went to, so things are looking up over here.

Toddler Phonics Funnies
Since I:
A) know that one of three readers of this blog is a speech therapist/pathologist/person who helps kids talk good, and:
B) am very much looking forward to hearing the ever-closer-to-words babbling of my niece in the very near future,
I wanted to re-post this story, as it made me laugh.
My friend Eddie (Ed? We called him Eddie in college, but now he's a husband and father and overall adult-type. Sir Edward, then.) writes an occasional blog about his growing family over at the Pluchar Baby Blog (this is one of at least FOUR blogs to which he contributes in his not-at-all-ample spare time).
So head over there for a chuckle. Sensitive readers be warned, there is one mildly explicit word used.

The return of the return, and suggestions of kisses
That was certainly a long break, wasn't it? So here's a short post to parallel my last:
I am still alive and am getting back into the patterns of work, school and life in general. This includes planning an upcoming baby shower for my impending niece or nephew, seeing the dim but strengthening light at the end of the graduate school tunnel, pondering possible moves of both career and geographical natures, and - fortunately - reading some good writing.
I finally subscribed to Roger Ebert's blog, after having read several excellent posts over there (I think blog-subscription is a commitment I take a bit too seriously sometimes). He posted again today, about the subject of making out, of all things.
Mr. Ebert writes "It is more erotic to wonder if you're about to be kissed than it is to be kissed." Upon reading that I recalled one of my heart-poundingest memories of high school, when I was riding in a car with a boy and he merely put his hand over mine. I recall becoming a bit dizzy from the least physical contact possible. Fantastic.
So if you require a good long post that will hopefully conjure up a few good memories of your own, head over here. If you find you haven't many memories of this sort of thing, it might time to go make out with someone, don't you think?
Happy new year!
